Unlike many of us had feared, mobile phone services are not going to get suspended on Election Day, told Ishtiaq Ahmed, Secretary Election Commission, while speaking with media yesterday.<br />

There were partial guesses about the suspension of mobile phone services – at least in sensitive areas of the country – on election day, i.e. May 11th, 2013.       <description><![CDATA[Election Commission of Pakistan 8300 SMS Service for Voters Lists Verification<br />
 <br />
Pakistani voters can now verify the status of their votes in the new computerized voter lists prepared by Election Commission of Pakistan by just sending an SMS via their mobile phones.<br />
Service has been up an running for all operators, throughout the country.<br />
Election Commission said that this SMS verification service, in collaboration with cellular operators, happens to be world’s largest verification service of any kind.<br />
ECP said that 85 million registered voters can check their records through a single SMS.<br />
 <br />
<b>How to Check your Vote Status?</b><br />
<ul>
<li>Simply send your CNIC (without dashes) to 8300</li>
<li>Example: Send “3740541882200” to 8300</li>
</ul><b>You will soon receive a reply with following information:</b><br />

<li>Your CNIC Number</li>
<li>Electoral Area, i.e. District, Tehsil and city/town/village</li>
<li>Block Code</li>
<li>Serial Number</li>
</ul><b>Note:</b> Reply message is likely to have words in Urdu (unicode). You may not be able to read the text message if your phone doesn’t support unicode.<br />

      <title>5.8-Magnitude Earthquake hits Pakistan Today 1st May 2013</title>
      <description><![CDATA[A 5.8-magnitude earthquake shook the Pakistani capital and many parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces though there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.<br />
 <br />
The quake, which occurred at 11.57am and lasted more than seven seconds, was felt in<br />
Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Gilgit and across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.<br />
 <br />
At many places, people rushed out of their homes and offices and began praying.<br />
 <br />
This was the fourth major temblor to rock parts of Pakistan since last month.<br />
 <br />
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said the quake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale and its epicentre was located 88 km east of Jammu city in India.<br />
 <br />
The quake occurred at a depth of 10km, it said.<br />
 <br />
Last month, a 7.8-magnitude quake in southeastern Iran killed more than 30 people and flattened hundreds of homes in a remote region of Pakistan’s Balochistan province.]]></description>

<b>TO REGISTER</b><br />
<ol>
<li>You must be over the age of 18</li>
<li>You must have a National Identity Card (NIC) issued by NADRA</li>
</ol><b>REGISTRATION PROCESS</b><br />
Go to your nearest Office of Assistant Election Commissioner / Registration Officer located in your area. If you do NOT know where your closest office is located, you can find out by contacting the Election Commission of Pakistan at (051) 920 1975 or (051) 920 6062 and asking them the address and phone number of the closest office to you. You can also contact 1217 to get the same information.<br />
 <br />
Once at the office, collect a “Voter Registration Form” and fill it out in full. Basic information will be required as well as a Photocopy of National Identity Card as well as Proof of Residence – this includes any kind of utility bill (electricity, gas, water or telephone). Once complete, submit the form and you’re DONE!<br />
More than one person can get registered on one form so remember to bring your family and friends. Get everyone registered and make your voices heard!<br />
PLEASE NOTE: Your vote will be registered to the address written on the National Identity Card. For example if you are registering in Karachi and your home address is in Lahore, you will have to vote in Lahore.<br />

<b>For Overseas Pakistani’s</b><br />
Overseas Pakistanis are allowed to be registered by their family, friends or relatives who live in the area of your residence in Pakistan. The process is simple roughly the same however please note! Any Citizen of Pakistan can get registered as voter anywhere in Pakistan and can cast their vote if he or she is in Pakistan during the time of elections. You must be IN PAKISTAN to cast your vote!<br />

<b>AFTER REGISTRATION</b><br />

<li>After you have submitted your registration form, in a few days confirm to make sure YOU ARE ON THE VOTER LIST! This can be done by many ways.</li>
<li>You can obtain the “Voter List” from the Assistant Election Commissioner/Registration Officer. Check to see whether your name is on the list.</li>

Qayyum had won the elections in 2008 as an independent candidate.<br />
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on March 29, declared that degrees of 54 politicians are fake and another 189 were yet to be verified.<br />
Around 249 parliamentarians had not submitted their Matric and FA degrees to the commission yet, the election commission secretary said on March 26.<br />
Having a graduation degree is no more a legal requirement to participate in elections, but anyone who is proved of having forged in the past stands disqualified to take part in elections.<br />
<b>SC issues detailed verdict</b><br />
The Supreme Court issued a detailed verdict in the fake degrees case on Tuesday and ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take action against all fake degree holders.<br />
The 8-page verdict, penned down by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, stated that it was the ECP’s responsibility to initiate action against fake degree holders and to disqualify them.]]></description>

Around 249 parliamentarians had not submitted their Matric and FA degrees to the commission yet, the election commission secretary said on March 26.<br />
Having a graduation degree is no more a legal requirement to participate in elections, but anyone who is proved of having forged in the past stands disqualified to take part in elections.<br />
<b>SC issues detailed verdict</b><br />
The Supreme Court issued a detailed verdict in the fake degrees case on Tuesday and ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take action against all fake degree holders.<br />
The 8-page verdict, penned down by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, stated that it was the ECP’s responsibility to initiate action against fake degree holders and to disqualify them.]]></description>
