"Ummahat-ul-Momineen"

Wives of Muhammad (s.a.w.w) are popularly known as "Ummahat-ul-Momineen". It means that They (r.a) are the Noble Mothers of Muslim Ummah. Every Muslim likes to know (and he must know) about the members of the family of the Prophet (Sallallaho alaihe wasallam). A very brief account of their lives is , therefore, given in the following pages. The Muhaddithin and historians all agree that eleven ladies had the honor of being the wives of the Prophet (Sallallaho alaihe wasallam). They (r.a) are part of our Iman and minor to minor misbehavior in their status may cause a person to suffer the words of Kafir.

Prophet Muhammad's (may and blessings of Allah be upon Him) wives were the eleven women married to Him. We, as Muslims refer to them as "Mothers of the Believers" (Arabic: "Ummuhat l-Mu'minīn"). Muslims use the term prominently –before or after referring to them– as a sign of respect. The term is derived from the Qur'anic verse [Qur'an 33:6]:

The Prophet is closer to the believers than their selves, and his wives are (as) their mothers.
