"I was having a really hard time with the imprisonment of my husband - yet again.

I wrote to a brother, I had known for years, who was also unjustly imprisoned. I complained to him how could my life be revolving around this trial over and over. I remember I couldn't recover from self-pity and self-doubt, until I got his reply.

For many of us there is a theme in life, a pattern Allaah has chosen for each one of us - in accordance to what He knows of our souls and where our destination is.

For some of us it could be failed relationships, it could be ailments and sickness, for some poverty and wealth, for others imprisonment and war - but we all have a pattern designed by Allaah for us.

His reply, may Allaah hasten his release:

"There are so many similar patterns in this universe, of events going in circles like this, but you notice that the circle expands. For example, on a molecular level electrons orbit around the nucleus of each atom in our bodies, our bodies orbit around the Ka'bah; the Earth orbits around the Sun, which orbits around the center of the Milky Way, which itself orbits around the center of a cluster of galaxies, and on and on. You notice the same pattern in the Qur'an.

Look at the story of Prophet Yusuf , for instance, and how the circle expands from his shirt. Initially, his shirt is brought to his father with fake blood on it. But because there's no tear, he doesn't believe the story of him being eaten by the world and at this time, he's "imprisoned" in the well. Later on, the King's servant believes Yusuf's explanation of his wife trying to seduce him because of his shirt being torn from the back, after which he's thrown in prison anyways. Then, after he's out of prison and is treasurer of Egypt, he meets his brothers and gives them his shirt to take to their father to assure him that he was still alive. So the circle expands, centered on one object/theme.

This is also evident in the story of Musa. The circle expands, but around water; when he's born, his mother and sister (two women) hid him in the river; when he grows up and escapes Egypt, he comes across two women at a body of water, who lead him to refuge. Then, he's standing at the edge of a body of water with Bani Israe'il leading the ummah and protecting it (after his 'umm' (mother) had protected him at a body of water as a baby) as Fir'awm drown in it.

So, you see this in even our lives today- a sort of deja vu but the circle keeps expanding until it ends well for us and all the while we are unaware of the pattern being laid out by Allah."
