Hand writing

Why do doctors often have bad handwriting?

The first and most important reason: because doctors have to write a lot. Fast. Their business is largely volume - driven and many physicians, especially in primary care, can spend an hour or more a day hand - writing notes.

The second reason? Because there are so few things in the culture of medicine to force them to be legible. Physicians make very expensive secretaries, so they ' d rather write quickly and pay attention to the next patient and let other people sort it out.
