An extra hour of sleep isn’t just a
luxury — it can make a real impact on
your physical and cognitive health.
Going from 7.5 to 6.5 hours of sleep
made participants in a recent study
struggle on cognitive tests.
Unfortunately, catching up on sleep
over the weekend isn’t a solution:
memories need to be moved from
short- to long-term memory within 24
hours of of being formed before you
run the risk of forgetting them. In
addition, over 500 genes are affected
by lack of sleep, and losing just one
hour of sleep increased activity in
genes linked to inflammation,
immune response, stress response,
and even risk of cancer. The good
news: this gene activity reversed
when participants added an hour of
sleep back into their schedule. Do you
get as much sleep as you need?

I learned in a recent seminar that every human has a cyle of either 1 hour and 30 mins or 1 hour and 20 mins. If you wake up in between of these hours, you'll feel tired, whereas if you finished that cycle and then woke up, you'll feel fresh.

You know how sometimes we sleep for 12 hours straight and still feel sleepy? That's because the cycle is out of order. And sometimes we only sleep for 4 hours, and we are fine and shine ;)

This post just made me think of that, so I thought I'd share it. I myself, am experimenting this to work out best sleeping hours :)
