Azzah or Azza is an indirect Quranic name for girls that means young female gazelle. It is an ancientArabic name that is derived from the AIN-Z-Z root (azaza, which means “it was dear”, “it was expensive”, “it was hard to get”), and they say that young female gazelles were called this because they were extremely hard to catch by hunters. The AIN-Z-Z root is mentioned in many places in the Quran and is the root for one of the 99 names of Allah: al-Azeez (The Almighty).
