The moon of Moharram marks the beginning of new Islamic year. Moharram is the month of great reward and virtue. It is also one of the four sacred months where battle is forbidden as mentioned in Holy Quran. Besides, most importantly Moharram is a month where Muslims remember the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA), his companions and his family members in the battleground of Karbala.
Every year Muslims pay tribute to the martyrs in the month of Moharram. Geo TV as always pays homage to these martyrs in a transmission over the first 10 days of Muharram to recall the bravery of the family of the Prophet and his companions, and heart-wrenching incidents that took place in Karbala.
Geo TV believes in honoring every school of thought in Islam. The transmission of Moharram-ul-Harram started with the ‘Youm e Farooq e Azam (Pzsba-e-Namoos-e-Risalat)’, where Dr. Aamir Liaquat was the host of the program. This program was an effort to highlight the prominent attributes of the second Caliph as a brave leader and righteous human being. Dr. Amir enlightened viewers about the incident of Shahadat of Hazrat Omar Farooq (RA). The program also had famous religious scholars including Abdul Hameed Rabbani, Fazal Ahmad, Kokab Noorani, Haji Hanif Tayyab, Qari Khaleelur Rahman, Dr. Hasan Rizvi and Ahmad Lodhyanvi; who paid their tribute to the martyrdom of the Hazrat Omar Farooq (RA). They also reflect on the qualities of Hazrat Omar Farooq (RA), who led a simple life and in his rule, no one was ever mistreated. Moreover, a beautiful manqabat was also recited by the Naat Khawan—this is actually a way to praise the greatness of Hazrat Omar (RA) who sacrificed his life for the sake of Islam.
Various programs and documentaries will not only highlight the sanctity of Moharram-ul-Haram, but enable the viewers to widen their understanding of the nobility and patience of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his determination to combat the tyranny. There is a short documentary about marsiya that will be shown. Marsiya is basically a poem of lamentation; it is recited to commemorate the valor and martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his comrades at Karbala. The short documentary ‘Tarikh-e-Marsiya’ will shed light on the history of Marsiya as well as Marsiya Khawani.
Documentaries such as Al Areen, Safr-e-Sham, Safr-e-Najaf, Safr-e-Karbala and Safr-e-Mashad have been made by renowned producer Hasan Askari that highlights the significance of sacred places associated with the martyrdom.
Furthermore, programs like ‘Iman aur Azmaish’ and ‘Iman Walon ke Dus Din’ revives the memories of battle of Karbala to the viewers. The former program is hosted by Kokab Noorani Okarwi who shares the insight about the battle of Karbala and how the followers of Islam stick to their faith at the face of atrocity. Dr. Amir hosts the latter program, where he will reveal the fact that the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) was an effort to safeguard the seal of prophet and protect Islam form enemies. The battle of Karbala is a lesson to the Muslims where one learns patience and the will to defend Islam on the face of adversaries. The encounter was between lovers of Islam, led by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and Yazeed Bin Mawaya with his huge force. It was the love of Islam that led these followers of Islam to sacrifice their lives rather giving in to the tyranny of Yazeed. What happens with Imam Hussain (RA) and his comrades during the battle is an example of courage and belief, but how they fought back to the evilness of Yazeed, is what Kokab Noorani Okarwi and Dr. Amir Liaquat will share through their programs.
An essence of Moharram transmission is Tehtul Lafz and Noha; it is reckoned as a ritual to pay salutation to the martyrs of Karbala. Thus, many famous Noha Khuwans have paid poetic homage to the martyrs of Karbala. A special Khutba (speech) was delivered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) to his companions during the journey towards Karbala. This speech holds a special place in the event of this battle. In remembrance to this particular Khutba, some of the lines of these speeches will be read by famous celebrities, politicians and sportspersons in ‘Khutbat-e-Imam-e-Hussain (RA)’. Moreover, Majalis is also an integral part of Moharram and therefore Geo TV is bringing you Majalis from 7th to 10th Moharram where renowned Islamic orators will narrate the past events in Karbala.
However, the concluding part of the transmission is going to be grand because of the Ashaura. ‘Hussain Zindabad’ is the closure to the remembrance of Karbala battle nevertheless, the ambience of the show is going to depict an aura of Karbala incident.
The nights of both 9th and 10th Moharram-ul-Haram will have a live transmission from 2 p.m. till late night where Dr. Amir will have a panel of religious scholars to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala for the last time. Not only the scholars but Dr. Amir will also have a live segment with kids to narrate the events related to Karbala incident.
Lastly, with the culmination of Shaam-e-Ghariban, Salam-e-Akhir is the last tribute to the martyrs of Karbala which will be recited by Syed Asad Jahan in his somber voice. The last recital is recognition to all the lovers and followers of Islam that no matter how hard the opponent tries, Islam will always rise high.
