Getting homework from a teacher the weekend before a huge upcoming test is any student’s worst nightmare. When Mrs. Thom at Bucklebury Primary School in London handed her year 6 students their weekend assignments before SATs (Standard Attainment Tests), they couldn’t believe their eyes.
Instead of giving the students more hard work, she gave them a list of fun-filled, stress-free assignments and told them to complete as many as they can and check them off as they go. Mrs. Thom’s stress-managing worksheet has gone viral and has been shared over 70,000 times on Facebook
Some of the activities she encouraged her students to complete were: go on a bike ride, watch your favorite TV show, smile, eat ice cream, spend time with people you love, and laugh until your tummy hurts.Instead of giving the students more hard work, she gave them a list of fun-filled, stress-free assignments and told them to complete as many as they can and check them off as they go. In the spirit of adventure, she also told the kids they should try something new they’ve never done before.
The wonderful teacher felt like students have enough stress and said leave all stressing to her for the weekend.
“Mrs Thom is in charge of worrying – you don’t need to,” she said at the end of the weekend assignment. “You are all amazing and I couldn’t be more proud of you.”
What an incredible teacher! We need more people to promote work-life balance like this.
