LAHORE:
The Punjab government is likely to recruit 32,218 educators for four subjects including science, mathematics, computer science and English to meet a shortage of human resources in the school system, The Express Tribune has learnt.
The recruitments are to be made before the next general elections on a contract basis for positions that have been vacant for “a long time,” said an official requesting anonymity.
The education department has submitted a summary to the chief minister for recruitment approval and subsequently, due process will be started in all districts simultaneously within three months.
The recruitments were being made to realise the goal of 100 percent enrolment, retention and quality education in the public education sector. A maximum number of teachers are to be recruited in Gujrat district, with a total of 1,730 appointments.
Merit-based recruitment
All the recruitments are to be made on a merit basis under the recruitment policy of 2011. Both males and females will be eligible for the posts. Two per cent of the seats have been reserved for disabled persons in each category and five per cent for minorities. Married female candidates may use the domicile of their husbands to apply.
According to the recruitment policy, district recruitment committee chairpersons will ensure the publication of vacancies in national newspapers and interested candidates can apply after depositing a Rs100 application fee.
Aspirants for the posts will compete at the tehsil level. The committee will interview eligible candidates and prepare a final merit list which will then be placed on the education department’s website.
Training
The candidates chosen for the job will receive induction training before joining the service. If the selected recruits do not join training, they will lose the right to join service and the offer will be given to the next person on the merit list. The selected candidates shall have to pass computer tests and post-training tests. After successful training, provisional letters of agreement will be issued.
Payment for the teachers
The selected teachers will be offered pay according to national pay scales, plus 30 per cent of the initial stage of the relevant basic pay scale. They will also be given annual increments, subject to satisfactory performance.
The contract is to be terminated if poor performance is shown on one month’s notice or on the payment of one month’s salary. It will also immediately be terminated if the degrees/certificates of selected educators are found to be false.
