One of the greatest means of feeling content and relaxed and of acquiring peace of mind is to remember Allah a great deal (dhikr). That has a great effect in bringing contentment and peace of mind, and relieving worry and distress. Allah says:

“Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”

[al-Ra’d 13:28]

Remembering Allah (dhikr) has a great effect in achieving this aim because it has a special influence and because of the hope that it brings of reward.

Ibn al-Jawzi said:

_“When the race horse knows that it is nearing the end of the track it exerts all of its effort to win the race. Do not allow the race horse to be more clever than you. For verily, deeds are judged by their conclusions. So if you didn’t do well with welcoming Ramadan then perhaps you will do better bidding it farewell.”_

Ibn Taymiyyah said:

_“The lesson lies in perfection of the conclusion of a thing, not in the shortcomings of the beginning of it.”_

Hasan al-Basri said:

“Improve your performance in what is left (of time) and you will be forgiven for that which has already passed. So take special care of the time you have left because you do not know when your soul will be turned over to Allah’s Mercy.”

Do not wait for the 27th Night to give it your “all”. The entire last 10 days should be your target. Stay up each night! Would you want to miss Laylatul Qadr even “by chance”?

We have the opportunity for high stations of Jannah – to meet the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him), to meet the blessed companions (May Alah be pleased with them all), and most of all to see Allah, The Most High! It sounds amazing, doesn’t it? Yet still many of us choose to not strive for Jannah. We have sadly become distracted and absorbed by this dunya, and lost sight of our purpose – worshipping Allah – and our main goal – the pleasure of Allah and subsequently Jannah.

“No, you prefer the life of this world, while the hereafter is better and that which remains” (87: 16-17).

Indeed, the akhirah is better for us; we need to use these last ten nights to pray for it.

Before you begin Tahjjud, make a list of du’as for everything you desire. This can be as long or short as you like. It is useful to place these duas under a few headings to make it easier for you to remember them.

Have a list of goals you want to achieve, even if they are small. Be sure to include your goals in your dua list so Allah can help you be productive in achieving them.
