LAHORE: In an American-style nomination and ticket-holding process, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will introduce local caucuses on district levels throughout the country, which in turn will elect a local party leader who will contest elections on national and provincial levels.
The new party constitution envisages details of this local caucuses or electoral college, which will comprise four million basic members from the length and breadth of the country. The members of the caucus will send a candidate for the national and provincial assembly. At the moment, the PTI has some 800,000 basic members.
“No matter how high-profile a politician is, the ticket is not guaranteed unless the local caucus awards him the nomination,” said PTI Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas.
Members of this electoral college will be picked during a membership drive in every union council of the country. The much-awaited constitution of the party is being debated by the central executive committee of the party and will be released in two weeks.
The party is also going to launch the Insaf Professional Forum on March 19 in Lahore, which will include top professionals from Punjab and it will also act as an advisory board on technical matters confronting the party.
More rallies
Moreover, PTI Chairman Imran Khan is going to launch a public contact drive in South Punjab for three days, during which he will address public rallies in Mailsi, Muzzaffargarh, Khanewal and Bahawalnagar.
On March 23, the party chairman will address a public rally in Sialkot. On April 8, the party has planned a big public rally in Abbottabad, preparations for which are already underway. During the rally, Imran is expected to take a position on the creation of a Hazara province.
The PTI bandwagon is then headed for Quetta on April 20 for what is billed to be the biggest public gathering, thus far. Arrangements and details of the rally are being worked out by a committee headed by PTI Balochistan President Qasim Suri. Imran is expected to attract dissident Baloch nationalist leaders to the rally.
