اَمۡ خُلِقُوۡا مِنۡ غَيۡرِ شَىۡءٍ اَمۡ هُمُ الۡخٰلِقُوۡنَؕ‏

Were they created from nothing or were they themselves the creator?

This verse is amazing in the conciseness of its challenge. There are only three possible answers to the question of the source of creation. The verse mentions two and leaves the third one unstated due to its obviousness. It doesn't bother to disapprove these two possibilities because they are so obviously false.

Something that doesn't exist, doesn't have power to bring anything into existence. There was a time when we didn't exist, so we couldn't have made ourselves. The chain of cause must eventually decrease to one who's existence doesn't depend on anything.

The stubborn human wants to link back everything to experience and give it a shape or form. When human is unable to do so, the first response is either to reject or for those with intellect is to dig deeper, yearning to find the truth. Sometimes this digging leads one to no choice but to submit. There are certain things which human will never be able to discover. This very truth can either lead one to darkness or into light. Human will either become heedless or submit.

After all Allah Himself says in the noble Qur'an,

لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ

There is nothing like unto Him.
This means whatever we think of God, He is exactly NOT that. Whatever we imagine Him to be (outside of what He has already attributed to Himself), is false. Our human mind cannot grasp and comprehend. This concept in it and of itself is beautiful when internalised and lived by.
Taste the sweetness of faith. Free yourself. Let your heart fly.
